The Martha Mixson Scholarship exists to help young Christians achieve their educational goals, and to assist preachers further their education. It was established in the fall of 2005, in memory of Martha Mixson of the Gulf Shores/Pleasure Island church of Christ in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Martha died in October of 2005, following a ten-year battle with cancer. Martha was the quintessential Christian lady. She was always quite welcoming of visitors at church and treated everyone as if they were the only person in the world. She especially loved children and cared deeply about their education. She herself was a dedicated teacher both in Bible classes and in public school system.
As mentioned above, one of Martha's main concerns throughout her life was educating children. The Martha Mixson Scholarship exists to assist young Christian men and women to achieve their educational goals. This is something that Martha placed as a high priority and now in her memory we seek to continue her vision.
All those seeking to apply for this scholarship should download an application below and mail it to the Gulf Shores church of Christ. The deadline for applicants will be March 1, 2009. We will inform the recipients around April 1, 2009.
